Chilliwack Center of Excellence

Fraser Valley Regional Development Center

2008 school programs

at

Cultus Lake

The Chilliwack Center of Excellence and Fraser Valley Regional Development Center are offering instructed paddling clinics at Cultus Lake this spring.  Programs are available for school students from Grade 4 and up.  Instructors for this program are nationally certified and very experienced.  Many of our instructors are current or past National Team members.   Program fees cover instruction and equipment use.

Beginning student

This program is intended for beginning youth paddlers grade 4 and up with no previous paddling experience.  The half-hour course will introduce students to the sport of kayaking.  We start by teaching the kids to paddle in circles and then progress to paddling in a straight line.   We end the session with some fun skill building games.   Our goal is to pass on our passion for the sport to the youth of Chilliwack.

We can accommodate 15 students per session.

It is recommended that classes book an hour of time and split their class into two groups with the teacher running a separate activity for the students not on the water.

Tamihi Clean Up -

Saturday, April 5, 2008
July 12- from the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.
September 28-from the Chilliwack Fish and Game Club

The CCE in Partnership with The City of Chilliwack and the Chilliwack/Vedder River Cleanup Coalition (CVRCC) support the Adopt a River program, aimed at improving the environment of the Vedder River and Canal through organized, regular cleanup events.

Thanks to the our club members who come out and help clean our stretch of Tamihi.
It's some time since we communicated with you and we need to provide you with some important information. Following discussions with the City of Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley Regional District it has been decided to have only three cleanups during 2008 rather than the usual four. As a result, there will be no January activity, at least for this coming year.

The 2008 cleanup dates have been set and they are:

April 5- from the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.
July 12- from the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.
September 28-from the Chilliwack Fish and Game Club

Your support is valued and appreciated. During the three 2007 cleanups a total of 9.05 tons of garbage was collected by 506 volunteers. These figures are quite impressive. You are making a significant difference in protecting the environment of this valuable area.
