Nationals Final Report

October 23/2007

Nationals Wind Up

What worked

Committee’s formed way in advance to allow ample time to plan.

Race ran well. Results up in a timely manor.

What Didn’t Work

-         Foreruns and race order need to be agreed in writing ahead of the race.

-         Double check those moving on to the second day of racing from the Cadet/Junior race.

-         Judges need to want to judge, volunteering and then watching the race makes it difficult.

-         Volweb for getting volunteers didn’t work.

-         Camping offer it as an option with a contact but don’t be involved… no money made, money owing.

Grant Status

-         Received an e-mail saying that our final $2500 is in the process of being sent.

Financial

-         = approximately $5000 profit with some bills still to be paid

CCE Meeting  Minutes

Athletes Assistance Plan (AAP) Funding

Toby reported that the WKABC received funding for 2006 and did not cash the cheque, so Sport BC cancelled the cheque and had now offered the funding to CKBC Whitewater to disperse to the athletes.  Toby and Andrew will choose a application format to send out and athletes will fill it in and then it will be evaluated and the monies dispersed.  There is $2500 with the minimum amount that can be handed out being $500.  It was recommended that 5-- $500 grants be used to disperse the monies.  The application should be updated for 2007/2008 years.

BC Provincial Championships

Saturday is the day for the CKBC Conference.  Kurt wants all athletes to attend the seminar by Dave????. He was Andrews coach and comes highly recommended.

Ahtletes are asked to have their registration forms in ASAP so that the start list can be done, Payment due by start of race.

Kurt will set the course on either Friday or early Saturday.

Race volunteers are needed.  Let Shonnet know if you are able to help.

All agreed that the CCE pays $60 for Andrew Mylly to attend the CKBC Conference banquet.

Travel Grants

It was decided we actually have 2 methods of receiving travel grants.

  1. is through fundraising.  This money is divided equally between all who participate in the fundraising and are under 23 years of age and a CCE member in good standing.
  2. is through CCE funds set out in the criteria for Club Funded Travel Grants.  The amount is to be determined by the board of directors for the following  criteria.  CCE member of good standing on the BC Whitewater Slalom Team, who is under 23 years of age during the current year, and is traveling to an out of province Canadian National Team Trials, or Canadian National Championship, or to the Junior Olympics for Cadet or Junior athletes.
  3. On a motion by Toby Roessingh $600 from club funds was allocated to CCE Funded Travel Grants and the money raised in fundrasers go to athletes who are active paddlers this year and fundraised.

To this end the following people received

  1. Fundraising Travel Grants – amount for 2007 to be dispersed = $1566.39 =$174.04 per athlete. Jon Allen, Derek Beer, Anna Williams, Jazmyne DenHollander, Sofie Thompson, Brett Paget, Gareth Paget, Kyle Kemp, and Jordan Golner.
  2. Club Funded Travel Grants – ($600 =$100 / athlete) Jon Allen, Derek Beer, Anna Williams, Jazmyne DenHollander, Brett Paget, Gareth Paget.

Lasagna Dinner was scheduled for Wed. July 19th at Shonnet’s church.  This is in conjunction with the Junior Olympic race and will be held at the same time as boat measuring in order to bring in the largest number of people.  Money raised from this will go to the athlete travel fund.  Kids will work.

Alan Williams and Derek Kemp will look into a car wash at the Husky.

Pub night at Characters will be scheduled for October or November.

Kurt’s summer schedule was presented.  As soon as Don reviews the written information for parents and athletes it will be distributed.

The Beers will host an informal get to know Kurt at their house on Easter Monday, April 17, from 2-4 p.m.

Cadet Coaching and introductory programs.  Toby will have information from Wendy at PacificSport on Friday April 7th regarding a financial contribution.  At this point it will be decided how to best post this job.  There was discussion regarding the position being an independent contractor or an RDC employee.  Don would like to keep the candidates from the High Performance job engaged for this position.  Marian also expressed interest in the job.  The importance of setting up the program and then hiring for the position was discussed, as opposed to hiring a person and then writing the job description around that person.
